Like how many Carly’s is too many Carly’s to have? And where has Sarah been all my life? I could have used her by my side years ago. She knows how to hang. Speaking of knowing how to hang, I went out with some of my girlfriends on Saturday night and am FEELING it today. I’m the gal everyone passes the rest of their fireball shot to when they can’t finish it. Uffda. It had been WAYYYY too long since all of us got together so I was ready to own the night. I put my new super dark MAC ‘Instigator’ lipstick on and my most honest friend goes, “I just really don’t like that. I mean, it’s okay with your mouth closed but when you open your mouth I don’t like it at all.” We all need a truth teller in our corner. I kept it on anyway because I like the mysterious vibe it gives off. I did keep my mouth closed in all the pics though. Thanks, Kimmy! Fast forward a couple hours and I was taking over the dance floor like I thought I actually had rhythm or something. I also found a Rihanna look alike who was rocking a similar lip shade so of course I tried to make her my new BFF. It’s fair to say she pulled it off a little better than I. I slept in until 9:30 this morning then took a two hour nap after lunch. I’m a complete pile but nights like that are so good for your soul. #BadMom
XXS Carly and and Small Sarah for reference.
Carly and Sarah: c/o Nicole Davel (LuLaRoe Lynn & Nicole) This mother daughter duo is the sweetest! They are always hosting live online parties and are pretty creative with the special promotions they offer.
Olive Leggings: LuLaRoe OS – Leah Tilstra
Sneakers: Superga for Target
Lipstick: NARS ‘Audacious’ Lipstick in Charlotte (this oxblood is a must for the holiday season)
Black Jeans: Paige Verdugo Distressed
Ankle Booties: Saks 5th Avenue ‘Hallie’ (they have a gold stacked heel. Fierce.)
Necklaces: H&M – old, similar here or here and I also like this one here. I don’t remember where I got the mixed metal one it’s so old, but similar here
Cardigan: Clad and Cloth
All I did here was ditch the sweater and tied the shirt off on both sides instead of just once in the middle. It was getting late, cut me some slack.
I wore this look to a friend’s baby shower I was co-hosting. Everyone wanted to know where I got the duster.
Ankle Booties: Dolce Vita ‘Lana’ (on sale for $129!) and a similar foldover style for under $100 here!
Necklace: Evereve – old, similar layered look here and here
OTK Boots: Saks 5th Avenue – old, similar here for under $100!
Slip: Free People ‘Voila’ (I love this thing!)
Necklaces: H&M and Evereve – both old. Also love this and this 3-in-1
Watch: Michael Kors ‘Bradshaw’
Bracelet: Alex and Ani
Turtleneck: Banana Republic – old, but love this one with the button details on the sleeves
Knee High Socks: I’m really not sure if these are my socks or the hubs, but they worked. Similar here or over the knee here
Suede D’Orsay Pumps: Banana Republic – old, similar here
I get asked a lot how I tie the Carly so I finally set up my YouTube channel and created short video tutorials. If anyone has connections at HGTV please nominate me for a bathroom makeover. That gold shower and tub in the background has got to go.
I’m so awkward on camera. You only get one take with my videographer husband though, so this is it. For more inspiration on how to style Carly, check out this post with 6 more styled looks.

LuLaRoe is my addiction… You’ve inspired me to try a turtleneck under one of my Carlys.
Do it! I think a thin stripe one would also be cute under it depending on the print you have. JCrew and Old Navy has some good ones right now, so check there!
Love the turtleneck style!! That’s not something I’ve seen before.
Thank you! I’ve always loved a good turtleneck so I’m glad they are back in a big way this year!
I love that you are so creative! A slip is a definite addition to the wardrobe. Thank you for the inspiration!
Awww thank you! I’ve been wearing that slip a ton! It’s great under a shirt dress or with a flannel or cardigan left open in front. I found mine on ebay for much less than in the stores so check there!
Loved all the ways to wear a Carly!!
I never knew. I’m getting my first one this week!
Fun! You’ll love it 🙂
I love being able to have a girls night out I actually just had this past Saturday night and it was awesome! It doesn’t happen often because I am a single mom but it was great and I totally agree everyone needs someone that’s completely truthful (usually it’s me) lol but I made a new friend Saturday night and she is amazing and incredibly honest and sweet! I think you totally rock your carly and sarah! You looked totally amazing in your pics and the lipstick is gorgeous on you!
Thank you, Catherine! We all need a break every once in a while to recharge our batteries. I’m glad you made the time for yourself and a new friend!
So many fantastic ways to style your Carly. Can’t wait to change it up with my own
Yes! That’s what is so fun about this dress – so many options!
I love Lularoe! You did a good job on your Carly knots!

HAHA! Thank you!
I’m so glad you included videos on how
To style the Carly
Oh good! I’ve been getting a lot of requests for them so I’m glad I finally got around to it.
Amy you’re always so cute! Thank you for the inspiration on mixing up the pieces I already have.
Thanks, Mandy! And thank you for introducing me to Nicole (the consultant, not the dress ;)).
I absolutely love all of the ways you styled your Carly and Sarah! I tend to be the honest friend too but I love that lipstick color. I think my favorite outfit style is the one with the turtleneck and knee high socks. SO CUTE!
Thank you! Ironically that was a last minute idea I threw together just before I was about to call it quits and so far it’s been the most popular. Funny how that happens sometimes. I tend to have this “don’t over think it” rule when dressing so I suppose it falls in line with that!
Love your lipstick and look! So glad you decided to keep your lipstick on even after someone told you it wasn’t the best shade!
HAHAH! Thank you! The color I wore on Saturday is about 2 shades darker than the one in these photos so it was pretty dramatic, but I like a little drama ;).
Love the last two! I’m not a big fan of tying…I always feel like a little kid when I try it! But these styles look super cute 😀
Thank you! You have to feel comfortable in whatever you wear so if the knots aren’t for you, that’s okay! The Carly is great on it’s own as a dress anyway 🙂
Amazing!
Thank you, Kate!
Thank you for taking the time to do this!!! I haven’t tried a Carly yet because I’m not sure how it’d actually look on me with no shape to it. This helps!
You’re welcome! I have 3 Carly’s now. They are really easy to throw on and go. You should definitely try it!
The slip idea… amazing! I just love it! & thank you for the knot tutorials. Knots are like my nemesis.
That slip has gotten a lot of wear! Who would have thought?
LI’ve all of these outfits. Especially the long sweater.
Thank you! I love a good long cozy sweater for the MN winters!
I just love all the different things you can Dom I just got my first Carly I plan to wear on Thanksgiving day, so this was perfect to come across. Granted I’m 33 weeks pregnant so we shall see how it looks!
I think it would be adorable with a bump! Congrats, Mama!
This was awesome! Love the double tied Carly. Thank-you so much!
You’re welcome – glad it gave you some inspiration!
I love this. I have been hesitant to buy a Carly because I am not sure what size I would be. If you don’t mind me asking. How tall are you? I’m about 5’7 and typically a size 0-2 so I get nervous if I go to small it’ll be to short. Thank you for you help!
I’m 5’6 and wear a size 4. I have 2 Carly’s in an XXS and 1 in an XS. I think an XXS would be long enough on you!
Seriously Amy you are so creative with your layers!! Damn girl you’re on fire!! Turtleneck? Genius! And that Free People slip? Fricken love it! I need you to come over and do my closet!
HAHA! Thanks, girl! I’ve been doing a lot more closet consulting lately so let’s arrange a time if you are serious! You supply the wine and I’ll supply the inspiration ;).
Oooh, I love the side knot with a ruffled slip underneath. I’ll have to try that one. I’ve also never seen a turtle neck worn under a Carly but doesn’t it get tight in the arms area? Thanks for showing how to do the knots too! Love them and will have to try them! LulaRoe pieces are just so versatile.
It’s actually not tight in the arms at all! The turtleneck is a lightweight knit so it’s not bulky. I’m glad you found some fresh ways to wear your Carly; you are right, they are so versatile!
The turtleneck is genius! Can’t wait to try that!
I’ve been slapping a turtleneck on under just about anything: button ups, dresses, sweaters, jackets…I think it adds an element of sophistication to almost any outfit.
What color is your sarah? I love it!!
Thank you! It’s a thin gray and white stripe!
Just for reference…I love you! Lol. I’ve been looking at your style hacks since before I was a retailer!!! Thank you thank you thank you for the amazing inspiration!!
Aww thank you for saying that! I hope your business is booming!
