I was working from home on Friday and went to leave the house at 5 to run a few errands before I had to pick the boys up at 6, only to find the garage door wouldn’t open and my car was trapped inside. Ugh. Go figure. The first call I make is to my parents because I have yet to learn anything about being a homeowner even though we’ve now owned two homes. Plus there’s always about an 85% chance my mom can fix it or knows someone else who can in the 15% chance she can’t. Both springs and the cable broke so this was one of those times she had to phone in a friend. He said he could do it but not until the morning. At this point I call the husband SUPER annoyed like any of this was actually his fault. He was en route to a work function that involved yard games and booze so let’s be honest, the real reason I was annoyed was because he got to go have fun and the clock was ticking on my 1 hour of freedom. On the Hot Crazy Matrix, let’s just say I’m not in the unicorn zone. My mother scolded me for taking my anger out on him and then offered to run errands with me. I’d be lost without her – and quite possibly single. The “urgent” errands I had to run incldued a stop at the post-office to mail back one of the 8 swimsuits I ordered for Vegas and a trip to Evereve to try on looks for my blog launch party I’m hosting at the The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes location tomorrow night. Eeek. Pretty jazzed about that one, not gonna lie. And also pretty stressed about getting everything ready in time. Speaking of not enough time, can you believe summer is almost over? Fall is by far my favorite season, but it feels like I never get to do all the things I want to do before summer is here and gone. For instance, get a tan, go on a bicycle barhop, organize a neighborhood kickball tourney, setup a Slip-N-Slide Flip Cup relay on the side of our house with the big hill, go on a booze cruise on a random Wednesday with a dozen friends and a rented pontoon because that’s what PTO should be used for! WHO’S WITH ME?
Just when I started to feel like I might have a real shot at this blogging thing, my mom insisted on taking the pictures for me because she doesn’t like the face I make when I take them myself in the mirror.
Sweatshirt: Saturday Love Pullover (Finally a sweatshirt that rivals my high school boyfriend’s football sweatshirt in comfort, but is socially acceptable to wear in public as a married woman to someone who was not the previous owner of said sweatshirt)
Bralette: Free People
Jean Shorts: Levi’s 501 (my own. I love sweaters with distressed shorts. You could even switch out the white sneaks for Green Hunter’s on a cooler day.)
Sneakers: Converse ‘Perforated’ (love that the perforated canvas is slightly different from the sea of white Chuck Taylor’s out there. Order a half size down.)
“Am I in the picture if I sit here?” Nope. You’re good ;).
Sweater: Free People Lover Rib Thermal (I already own this in grey but am really digging the red. Are there rules when it comes to owning the same thing in multiple colors?)
Shorts: Same as above
Necklace: Olivia Statement Necklace
Booties: Dolce Vita Double Zip (I’ve been on the hunt for a new pair of booties that I can wear with shorts and these, these are IT! They are FO SHO coming home with me.)
She realized she was definitely in the pic and is now standing beside me with her back flat against the wall.
Safari Jacket: KERSH (I own a similar one but I like how lightweight this one is, soooo…maybe I need it too?)
Sweater: same Free People Thermal as above.
Jeans: 7 For All Mankind B[AIR] Ankle Skinny
Booties: same Dolce Vita as above. (I literally stomped around the store in these for 2 hours like I owned the place.)
Dress: Free People ‘Sweet Tennessee’ (Is it a dress or is it a tunic? Or is it both? I vote both! Also, the keyhole back is adorbs.)
Bralette: Free People
Olive Jeans: Legging AG (olive is my most worn neutral right now. I love it in a denim. It feels edgy – like my new mom cut.)
Booties: Do we still gotta talk about them?
“Can you see me now?”
Cold Shoulder Dress: Braeve (I find myself wanting to tie up all my dresses into tunics over a pair of skinnies. You too?)
Jeans: Legging by AG
Booties: You know the drill
And just for fun, here’s what happened next…
I got the giggles looking at my mom crouched down behind the clothing rack in another failed attempt to avoid being in the photos, when really there was no good place to hide considering we are standing in a tiny dressing room with floor to ceiling mirrors. Mind you, there is a door to the left of me she could just wait outside of. “What’s so funny? Can you still see me?” she asks innocently. At that point we both completely lose it and she starts crawling out yelling, “Amy Marie, don’t you dare pee in those clothes!” and then runs out towards the bathroom to avoid wetting her own.
I am my mother’s daughter.
